Breast MRI is the most sensitive imaging tool available. It is used to screen very high-risk women, assess the extent of disease after a diagnosis and monitor treatment response. The trade-off has always been time: an MRI exam is long, costly and produces hundreds of images.
AI changes that in three ways. It shortens acquisition time by reconstructing high-quality images from fewer measurements. It reads sequences more consistently, reducing variability between radiologists. And it helps delineate tumour boundaries precisely, which directly supports surgical planning.
Clinical value
- Screening high-risk women alongside mammography
- Mapping tumour extent before surgery
- Assessing response to chemotherapy
- Finding small additional lesions that other tests miss
